  • The dissolution of the board followed a motion by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Tim Owhefere during plenary on recently in Asaba.

Moving the motion, Owhefere noted that the decision is due to the exigency of the nation’s fast moving democracy and the need for the state to move in tandem with world best practices in the electoral process.

He said that the commission could now be dissolved in line with Section 7, Sub section 1 of DSIEC Law 2012.

The disillusion which came as a rude shock to Deltans especially the opposition All Progressive Congress(APC) was greeted with a lot of criticism describing the action of the governor and members of the house as an embarrassment and great set back to our nascent democracy.

According to an APC chieftain who spoke on anonymous ground, he described the action as a compendium of fraud, incompetence and criminality while giving reasons why their action remains ultra vires.

They wondered why the board was dissolved even though they have not served their full term as required by the constitution beside the fact that the provisions of the amended bill is inconsistent with the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

However whistleblowers gathered from reliable source the real reason the board was dissolved.

According to whistleblowers the Delta state government became jittery of the growing presence and popularity of the opposition party and could not trust the erstwhile Chairman of the board on its plan to rig the forthcoming local government election in its favour for obvious reasons.

The source who do not want his name mentioned was an insider in the dissolved DSIEC board. Stated that, “My brother we were removed because with Moses Ogbe as the chairman of the board it would be difficult to rig APC out.Let me tell you PDP is evil, when we were there a certain disabled man contested in Ndokwa east, this man won clearly but was given a fake result sheet by agent of PDP that was sent there as the returning officer, this man was coming to our office for months, there was a day he came to our office after so many visits ,he shared tears and laid a curse on PDP for denying him victory despite his condition.

Another Barrister from Ukwani or so and a lot of opposition candidates that won in their wards and LGA were deprived from being sworn in by the state government”.

Continuing he said ” the one that actually break the camel’s back was the ward councillorship bye election that took place at Sen.Omo Agege ward in Ughelli north, after that election the governor was so furious because it was meant to demystify the senator and disgrace him but unfortunately for PDP the senator won his ward despite the presence of the Secretary to state government and commissioner of finance from that local government. It got to the extent in their bid to declare false result and swore in the defeated PDP councillor the governor sent the state party chairman, Barr Kingsley Esiso to make sure the result was upturned in favour of the PDP candidate. a request that was turned down by the Immediate past chairman of DSIEC, they actually wanted to dissolve the biard that December period last year after that election but was advised against it, they felt if they allow the immediate past board chairman to conduct this coming local government election Pdp will suffer an excruciating defeat, dissolving the board was targeted at the chairman, Moses Ogbe and some of us for our principled stance in the commission, go and check the list the DSIEC members from Ndkowa east and Ika north east were returned to the board”. “My brother Okowa is becoming desperate by the day and the opposition must sit up if they want to win elections in Delta state”.
